25 Years at the Prague State Opera

With a performance of Verdi’s Nabucco on November 22 nd ., Hilary Griffiths celebrates 25 years as a conductor at the State Opera Prague. After conducting La finta giardiniera at the theatre in September 1991 as part of the festival ‘Mozart-Europe- Prague’ in a performance of the Cologne Opera he was invited to conduct Cosí fan tutte, Il trovatore and a new production of Eine florentinische Tragödie and Der Zwerg by Zemlinsky.

This was followed by a legendary new production of Salome and ten further new productions, including those of Erwartung and Tiefland, both of which operas were originally premiered in this theatre, and the first Czech performance of Death in Venice. His most recent premiere there was of Tannhäuser; until now he has conducted more than 250 performances of 25 different operas for the State Opera.
